BEACON, NEW YORK: A dog poster hangs on the wall above Tyrone's bed in his cell at Fishkill Correctional Facility. Tyrone, serving a 8 1/2 year sentence, has already trained one dog that has gone to live with a war vetern. The program works with prison inmates in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to train service dogs, including ones who help injured soldiers or those suffering from post-traumatic stress. The puppies live with the prisoners during a 18-20 month training process.
