WISE, VIRGINIA-JULY 24: People wait in line in the early morning to register for free medical treatment with The Remote Area Medical (RAM) during a two and half day at the Virginia-Kentucky Fairgrounds transforming farm buildings into a makeshift field hospital July 24, 2009. People came from as far away as New York for treatment. More than half of the 2,700 people treated have no insurance at all and many more are underinsured and can't afford the deductibles or co-pay for their insurance. For the past 10 years the fairgrounds have been used one weekend in July as a mobile field hospital providing care for those in need. Organizers estimate that they provided over $1.6 million USD worth of care.
